Applications are reviewed/approved weekly on Wednesdays on a first come first serve basis.
Qualifications:
- Applicants can not have received assistance from United Way in the past.
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be late/in arrears on their rent and/or utilities for which they are applying.
- Must have experienced an unexpected occurrence such as loss of income, medical emergency, or disaster that caused applicants to be behind/in arrears.
- Applicants must be residents of Rhea County in Tennessee.
- The residences for which the assistance is to be applied must be located within Rhea county.
- Applicants must be the head of the household.
- In cases of rent assistance, the landlord of the residence for which the assistance is to be applied cannot be a relative of the applicant. A copy of your lease must be provided with the application.
- In cases of utility assistance, utilities must be in the applicant’s name. A copy of your most recent utility bill must be provided with the application.
Copies of the following documents are required for applications to be considered.
(Additional Documents May Also Be Required After Initial Application Review):
- Photo Identification for all in the household 18 and older (Driver's License, Passport, or State ID).
- Proof of income for the last three months (pay stubs, Social Security award letter, etc.)
- Copy of your current lease (rent assistance only).
- Copy of your current utility bill (utility assistance only).
- Copy of the landlord verification form (rent assistance only).
If you are seeking rent assistance you must have your landlord complete a landlord verification form.
How to Apply
Rent Assistance Applicants
- Rent Assistance applicants are required to provide a completed Landlord Verification Form. The landlord cannot be a relative of the applicant.
- A copy of the lease must be provided with the application.
Utility Assistance Applicants
- Utilities must be in the applicant's name.
- A copy of your most recent utility bill must be provided with the application.
Assistance through this program will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis upon approval. Only completed applications including all required documentation will be processed to determine what, if any, assistance can be provided. All applications are reviewed on Wednesday in the order that they are received.
Failure to provide all required documentation with the application will result in the application being denied.
